European Commission launches 2012 Call for Proposals in the field of sport

The European Commission has recently published a new call for proposals as an invitation to submit project applications for co-financing: ec.europa.eu/sport/news/20120417-2012-call-for-proposals_en.htm.

With this Call for Proposals the European Commission aims to support transnational projects aimed at identifying suitable networks and good practices in the following areas:
(1) The fight against match-fixing,
(2) The promotion of physical activity supporting active ageing,
(3) Awareness-raising about effective ways of promoting sport at municipal level,
(4) Trans-frontier joint grassroots sport competitions in neighbouring regions and Member States.

One current focal point of “Cities for Sports“ is Encouraging Physical Activity among Senior Citizens. This is an area where however, hardly any experience is available in European Cities. We would like to use the call for proposals to expand the network work and to build on the positive experiences we made with our EU supported project under the Call for Proposals 2009 as well as to work together on the two core questions that arose during the first network meeting of Cities for Sports in 2011:
- How can exercise among senior citizens be realistically encouraged?
- How can the target group – senior citizens – be reached and activated?
