Promotion of physical activity among adults is currently not a major topic for “Cities for Sports”. Nevertheless the Cities for Sports discuss their approaches and think of how can exercise among adults be promoted. And how the promotion of exercise among adults can be organised?

Some interesting approaches are posted in the member area.

Promotion of exercise for adults

According to the World Health Organisation an adult should be physically active for at least 30 minutes five days a week.

Fewer and fewer Europeans reach this minimum in exercise. Most jobs are carried out sitting down, and the way to work is usually by car or public transport. The consequence of this can often be back trouble, chronic illnesses, such as high blood pressure or diabetes type II. Lack of exercise can be related to very many health problems. The entire human organism is designed to be in movement. Our bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles all need exercise if they are not to waste away – true to the motto “Use it or lose it”.

The target of Cities for Sports is to show what can be done to promote an active way of life by means of best practices.
